29th PATT conference in Marseille (France) 6-10 April 2015. Plurality anc complementarity of approaches in Design
Conference theme
All countries face the development of technologies in an increasingly global world. Transmission of technological culture becomes an important challenge in terms of socio-economic development, and in personal and citizenship development. For the young, mastering the necessary knowledge and competency is a key to success in their future life. Technological reasoning is socially just as important as reading, writing and arithmetic. It is the role of design & technology education to transmit this culture, but school tradition comes up against many difficulties when organising it. Some questions remain unanswerable, enough to convince some countries to drop design & technology education or for confusing it with science education.
Among these questions, some are central: how to conceive design & technology education curricula alongside other school subjects? How does design & technology education contribute to the education of all and take on a share of the struggle against inequality (gender, ethnic, social...)? How can design & technology education clarify the vocational orientation of pupils? How does technology education contribute to the general understanding of techno-scientific or social evolution? How can design & technology education deal with sustainable development, environment protection and the welfare of people? How efficient are the pedagogical methods used in design & technology education? Are there original approaches for building knowledge and competency? How is it possible to increase the cognitive efficiency of technological courses?
Researches in design & technology education can highlight some elements for promoting these aims and for improving their achievement. This conference aims to share the experiences and results of investigations from different countries; we will discuss pedagogical innovations, curricula development, new understanding of school situations... This list of topics is not exclusive and contributions in other areas of design & technology education will be considered.
Submission of abstract deadline: until June 30th, 2014.
